Ethereal Bloomscape

The Ethereal Bloomscape series captures the ethereal beauty of Washington, D.C.'s Tidal Basin in late March. Inspired by the tranquil moments spent wandering beneath the cherry blossoms with my dog, these acrylic works reflect the ever-changing interplay of light, shadow, and reflection that I witnessed during our evening walks. As the sun dipped lower, its golden light transformed the scene, casting shifting silhouettes and reflections across the water's surface. It was in these fleeting, layered impressions that I found my inspiration.

Each piece in this series is painted on an acrylic sheet, mounted with standoff mounts that elevate it 1.96 inches from the wall. This intentional distance allows the artwork to interact dynamically with its surroundings. When illuminated, the cherry blossoms cast soft silhouettes onto the wall, creating a three-dimensional effect that extends the presence of the piece beyond its physical form. Much like the reflections I observed on the water’s surface, the shadows bring a second layer of beauty—a reminder that what we see is often amplified and reimagined through light and perspective.

The Ethereal Bloomscape series is an exploration of how beauty is not confined to a single dimension. Just as the blossoms reflected on the Tidal Basin’s waters shifted with the sun’s path, these artworks invite viewers to experience beauty as both the object itself and the echo it leaves behind. Through the interplay of acrylic, shadow, and light, I seek to capture that delicate impermanence and offer a moment of reflection on how perspective shapes our experience of the world around us.
